The 2008 Temple-Belton Area NJCAA Region V Basketball Championship Tournament will be held again this year at the Mayborn Campus Center on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor campus March 6-9.   

The tournament this year is a Tournament of Champions as the Regional Women’s Champion last year (Odessa College) and Men’s Regional Champion last year (Midland College) proceeded to win the NJCAA National Championship.   That speaks a lot for the quality of basketball in Region V of the NJCAA which is composed of the Northern Tx. Conference and the Western Tx. Conference.  The top four teams from each conference qualify for this regional play.  

The tournament this year will begin with the men’s teams playing on Thursday (March 6) and the women’s division playing on Friday (March 7).  Then on Saturday March 8^th the four winners from Thursday and the four winners from Friday will pair off in the semi-finals with the Region V champions decided for both men and women on Sunday, March 9.  The championship game for the women will begin at 2 p.m. with the men’s championship following at 5 p.m.  Pairings will be set at a later date when the participating teams qualify.

Tournament tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for students.  Advance tickets are on sale at the Temple College athletic office, the Temple Chamber of Commerce, and the Belton Chamber of Commerce.  Day passes will be $7 adults and $5 students.  A will call table will be available for those wishing to reserve tickets in advance.  Tournament tickets and day passes will be on sale at the gate.  For additional information call the Temple College Athletic Office at (254) 298-8522.
